Choose staff augmentation when you need one or two skills inside a team you already manage. Choose a dedicated team when you need several roles and a team lead for a sustained roadmap. Choose a managed pod when you want a defined scope delivered against outcomes you set, without managing it day to day. Choose white label when you are an agency or consultancy delivering under your own brand.
The four models compared
| Staff augmentation | Dedicated team | Managed pod | White label | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who directs the work | You | You, with our team lead | You set outcomes; we run delivery | You, under your brand |
| Who manages engineers day to day | You | Our team lead, inside your rituals | Us | You or our lead, as you choose |
| Typical size | One role at a time | Several roles plus a lead | A cross-functional pod | From one contractor to a whole team |
| Best for | Filling a skill gap in an existing team | A sustained product roadmap | A defined scope you want delivered | Agencies and consultancies delivering to their clients |
Staff augmentation: add a skill to your team
Individual engineers join your team and work under your direction, in your tools, repositories and standups. You keep full control of priorities and code; we handle sourcing, vetting, payroll and replacement.
- Fits when you have a working team and a clear gap: a React developer for a release, a SailPoint engineer for a programme, an LLM engineer for a pilot.
- Watch out for: augmented engineers still need your management time. If nobody on your side can direct them, a dedicated team or pod fits better.
Dedicated team: a squad for a roadmap
A cross-functional team with a team lead that owns delivery alongside you. It joins your rituals and backlog, so it behaves like part of your engineering organisation rather than a vendor. It is our most popular model.
- Fits when the work is sustained, spans several roles, and you want someone besides you keeping the team on track.
- Watch out for: a dedicated team pays off over months, not weeks. For a short spike, individual engineers are simpler.
Managed pod: outcomes, not headcount
We run a pod against outcomes you define, such as a mobile app, an integration or a platform module, and handle the day-to-day engineering management. You agree the scope and review the results.
- Fits when you know what you want built but do not have the time or people to manage the build.
- Watch out for: the scope must be clear enough to agree outcomes. If it is still being discovered, start with a dedicated team.
White label: delivery under your brand
For agencies, IT consultancies and system integrators. Engineers work as part of your team, using the email domain and tools you provide, or stay entirely back-office and talk only to your delivery lead. Code lives in repositories you or your client control, and all client communication runs through you.
- Fits when you have won work you cannot staff, or a client asks for a skill you do not keep on payroll, such as SailPoint, Dynamics 365 or LLM engineering.
- Watch out for: agree the visibility model and commercial terms in writing before anyone starts. We are happy to work from your standard subcontractor agreement.
Commitment and cost
The model decides who manages the work; the commitment decides the rate. Any model can run on any of these plans:
| Plan | Minimum term | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flexible | Month to month | Standard rate | Two weeks' notice to end |
| Committed | 3 months | About 10% below standard | Priority bench access, dedicated delivery contact |
| Dedicated | 6 months or more | About 20% below standard | Guaranteed bench reservation, account manager and SLAs |
Compared with hiring
Hiring a specialist permanently can take two to four months and carries recruitment fees, a long-term salary and the risk of a bad hire. With any of the models above, we send resumes within one business day, you interview and approve every engineer, onboarding takes about a week, and an engineer who is not the right fit is replaced at no extra cost.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between staff augmentation and a dedicated team?
Staff augmentation adds individual engineers to a team you already manage, one role at a time. A dedicated team is a group of roles with its own team lead that owns delivery alongside you on a sustained roadmap. Both work inside your tools and rituals; the difference is how much management you provide.
What is the difference between white label and staff augmentation?
Staff augmentation serves your own product. White label serves your clients: engineers deliver client work under your brand, or stay back-office, while you keep the client relationship and the margin. The engineers and rates are the same; the visibility and commercial terms differ.
Can we switch models later?
Yes. An engagement can start with one or two augmented engineers and grow into a dedicated team once the roadmap is clear. You can also add a managed pod for a defined scope alongside an existing team.
Who owns the code?
You do. Engineers commit to repositories you or your client control and follow your review process, so the work stays with you and nothing needs handing back when an engagement ends.
How quickly can each model start?
We send resumes and rates within one business day for any model. After you interview and approve the engineers, average onboarding is about a week.
